In addition to the castle and the grounds, Penrhyn also plays host to a modest railway museum, with some good examples of engines that would have operated in the mines that helped to provide the wealth for the family that owned the castle. As a family, we hold a National Trust pass and it has become invaluable to us as we holiday in different places around the UK. The pass is great for days out too as it allows either free entry, or reduced cost entry into a huge number of interesting places. It often means that we more or less stumble across places as we are on our travels. One such place we visited was Penrhyn Castle in Bangor, Wales near Anglesey. Bodnant gardens is another National Trust property in North Wales, and was a hidden gem. There's so much to explore and a description probably won't do it justice. The gardens are absolutely breathtaking and well maintained. There are a huge collection of plants and flowers here, and from what I gather the collection was deliberately built up over the years by gathering species from all around the world. The place is truly magnificent and well worth a visit if you enjoy walks
